Eye and Vision Exams

When it comes to eye exams, some people don't realize how important they are for overall eye health. The eyes are one of the most important parts of the human body that are often overlooked. It isn't until someone starts suffering from blurry or double vision that they might consider visiting an optometrist. Nevertheless, it's important to get help from an optometrist and get a vision exam or an eye exam if you are at risk for eye problems or think you may have one.

At ClearView Eyecare, we provide eye exams in Bellingham, WA, so you can continue to see clearly and get your eye health taken care of. Our optometrist wants to help you and your loved ones get the help you need to see clearly, prevent eye diseases from negatively affecting your eye health, and help prevent vision loss in one or both of your eyes.

How Often Do I Need a Vision Exam?

It's recommended that older people or people with a pre-existing eye condition visit their optometrist at once a year for a vision exam or an eye exam. Younger people without any existing vision disorders should also visit an optometrist every so often, if only to get a status update on their eye health.

In addition, you should schedule an eye exam right away if you notice any changes in your vision. These changes can include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Trouble focusing
  • Inability to see without squinting
  • Increased glare at night
  • Halos in your eyes
  • Increase in floaters
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain
  • Eye pain

These could all indicate the presence of an underlying vision disorder or even eye disease. In order to rule out any eye diseases or other eye health problems, you'll need an eye exam and the help of an optometrist.

What Does an Optometrist Do During Eye Exams vs Vision Exams?

During a vision test, an optometrist on our optometry team will help conduct a vision test to determine how well your eyesight is without the use of glasses. They will ask you to read off a chart that is posted on an opposite wall from you are, as the letters get smaller and smaller.

During an eye exam, an optometrist on our optometry team looks at the inside structure of your eye, to help determine if you are suffering from any eye diseases or other eye health problems. If you are, an optometrist on our optometry team can help determine the best treatment for your eyes, including eye drops, prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, or even LASIK surgery to fix issues like astigmatism and farsightedness or nearsightedness.
